Many of you will have seen towards the end of last year an announcement from CITB outlining changes to its funding and grants system from the beginning of 2026. It’s understandable that some in our sector may initially have been concerned about the potential impact on scaffolding training.
However, following a meeting with Tim Balcon, Chief Executive of CITB, the Scaffolding Associaton is pleased to confirm that scaffolding training linked to the CISRS card scheme remains “protected” within the CITB Grants Scheme.
CITB has confirmed that scaffolding training remains unchanged because of its critical role in training individuals to full occupational competence. This recognition reflects the safety-critical nature of our industry and the importance of maintaining high, consistent standards.
Importantly, as there are several short courses that form part of recognised routes to CISRS cards, CITB will continue to support these through the short course grant route.
Scaffolding training leading to a CISRS card that remains supported includes:
- COTS
- Base Card
- Scaffold Tube and Fitting
- Scaffolder Systems
- Scaffold Inspections
- Scaffold Supervision & Management
- Advanced Scaffolder
- Refresher Courses
The Scaffolding Association welcomes the clarity provided by CITB and will continue to work closely with them to ensure our sector’s training pathways remain robust, accessible, and aligned with the highest safety standards.
We will keep members updated as further details emerge and will always represent the interests of the scaffolding industry in discussions around skills, funding, and competence.
