The Scaffolding Association has today issued a statement calling for increased collaboration across the scaffolding and access industry, in response to recent events that have brought renewed scrutiny to sector standards.

The Association recognises that challenges within the scaffolding sector impact the entire industry. These are not isolated issues, and their consequences extend to every contractor, scaffolder, client, and organisation operating in the field. The professionalism, safety, and reputation of the sector depend on a collective approach to upholding and continuously improving standards.

The Association acknowledges that no membership organisation or business is without fault. While the scaffolding and access industry is relatively small, it remains a vital part of the wider construction sector. High standards must always be prioritised, but so too must a constructive and professional approach to improvement.

Pointing blame or isolating sections of the industry serves no productive purpose. It undermines the collective strength that all stakeholders rely upon. The Association maintains that responsible and measured collaboration is essential for real progress.

A clear distinction must also be made between audit outcomes and ongoing competence. An audit is a valuable tool for assessment against specific criteria at a particular point in time. However, competence is not defined by an audit alone. It is demonstrated consistently through leadership on site, technical proficiency, commitment to development, and a culture of excellence embedded in day-to-day operations. In light of recent incidents, the Association reiterates that no single business or organisation holds sole responsibility, nor can any one body claim full immunity.

The impact of such events is felt across the entire industry and must be addressed as a shared responsibility. The Scaffolding Association is therefore extending an open and professional invitation to all organisations and stakeholders within the scaffolding and access industry to engage in a constructive, sector-wide dialogue.

The Association believes that unity, shared responsibility, and a commitment to ongoing improvement are vital to safeguarding the future of the industry.
